Position: Seasonal Contract Equine Reproduction Veterinarian
Start Date: July/August 2025
Salary: Competitive salary package

About Us: West Coast Veterinary Hospital is a leading equine veterinary practice located in Forrestdale, Western Australia. We are renowned for delivering exceptional care and service to our clients and their horses. We specialize in all areas of equine medicine, including reproduction, and we are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Equine Reproduction Veterinarian to join our dynamic team.

The Role: As an Equine Reproduction Veterinarian, you will play a key role in managing and advancing our reproduction services. This includes overseeing breeding, infertility management, artificial insemination (AI), embryo transfer, semen collection and processing, foaling down service and neonatal care. You will work closely with a dedicated team of vets and support staff, collaborating with clients to deliver the best possible outcomes for their horses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct reproductive evaluations, including ultrasound exams and diagnostic tests

  • Embryo transfer experience is ideal but not esential

  • Manage breeding and reproductive cycles for mares and stallions

  • Provide advice on breeding management, including artificial insemination and embryo transfer

  • Assist with foaling and post-foaling care

  • Monitor and manage reproductive health of mares and stallions, including infertility issues

  • Work with clients to develop and implement breeding programs and strategies

  • Keep accurate and detailed medical records, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements

  • Contribute to the clinics on call roster

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine registerable in Western Australia

  • Previous experience in equine reproduction and veterinary care 

  • Strong communication skills with a client-focused approach

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Passion for equine reproductive health and welfare

  • Willingness to be on-call and flexible with working hours

Equine Nurse

Position: Equine Nurse

Start Date: Immediate Start

About us: West Coast Veterinary Hospital is a purpose-built veterinary hospital that opened in January 2017. Our state-of-the-art hospital is located in Forrestdale, Western Australia, 20 mins south of the Perth CBD. Our caseload is 55% small animals, 40% equine and 5% farm animals. We have three spacious operating theatres, three SA consulting rooms, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, digital radiography, MRI and ultrasonography facilities. Our clinic is a great place to work, with low staff turn-over and an exciting and varied caseload. www.westcoastvets.com.au The role West Coast Vets is looking for an equine nurse to join our equine team. The position will be approx 30-38 hours per week however this may vary and can be discussed with the successful applicant. Located Forrestdale, Western Australia.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee care of equine and farm animals

  • General nursing activities across the hospital

  • Ability to be on call (1/10 weeks approximately)

  • Maintenance of high clinical standards (emergency, medicine and surgery)

The ideal applicant This role will suit an enthusiastic and passionate equine vet nurse. The successful applicant ideally should have:

  • Ideally a minimum of 1 year veterinary nursing experience

  • Excellent horse handling skills (must be confident with young horses)

  • Exceptional patient care and clinical standards.

  • The ability to work independently and within a team

  • Self motivated and be able to follow instructions

  • Be able to work well under pressure/stressful situations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Registration as a veterinary nurse in Western Australia

Salary and benefits: The remuneration for this position would be consistent with the award wage for a level 4 veterinary nurse.
